Wondering what therapy is really like?
You’re not alone. Here are some answers to common questions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a diagnosis to start therapy?
You don’t need a formal diagnosis or a crisis to begin. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, emotionally drained, or just... off, therapy can help you sort through it and find a way forward.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you’re feeling stuck, exhausted, anxious, or like you’re constantly carrying a mental load, therapy could make a difference. Booking a consultation is a great first step, no pressure, just a conversation.
How often will we meet for sessions?
It really depends on what’s going on in your life and what feels manageable for you. Some people prefer weekly sessions to build momentum and process things consistently. Others might come bi-weekly or once a month. Therapy is flexible, and we’ll work together to find a rhythm that fits your life, not adds to the stress.
What is a trauma-informed therapist?
Trauma-focused therapists understand that overwhelming experiences can leave lasting imprints on thoughts, emotions, and even the body. What might look like “overreacting” or “shutting down” is often a person doing their best to cope with something that felt unsafe or too much. Effective trauma therapy focuses on creating a sense of safety, not pressure. Therapists are trained to move at a pace that feels manageable, always prioritizing choice and consent. The goal isn’t to “fix” someone. It’s to support healing through a steady, trusting relationship, the kind where feeling safe again becomes possible.
How much does a session cost?
The standard fee for a 60-minute individual session is $235, which reflects the time, care, and professional expertise involved. You can discuss direct billing options with your therapist, or pay through credit card, e-transfer, or cash and receive an emailed receipt. If cost is a concern, don’t hesitate to ask about sliding scale availability, we’ll do our best to make therapy accessible.
What’s your cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, please give at least 48 hours' notice. Because your appointment time is set aside for you, late cancellations or missed sessions without notice may be charged. Please always reach out if something comes up, we will try our best to help you reschedule.
What if I need urgent help or support between sessions?
If you're in crisis or need immediate support, it’s important to reach out to emergency services or a 24/7 resource. Therapy here isn’t set up for emergency care, but there is help out there. In Calgary, the Distress Centre is available 24/7 at 403-266-4357, or you can always call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room if your safety is at risk.
Do you offer direct billing to insurance?
Yes, we offer direct billing to most insurance companies. Please speak to your practitioner to see if direct billing is an option for you. If direct billing is unavailable, you will always receive a detailed receipt after each session with everything your insurance provider will need to process your claim for reimbursement. Most plans that cover Registered Psychologists will accept our services, but it’s a good idea to double-check with your provider.
Do you offer a sliding scale for fees?
Yes, a small number of sliding scale spots are available for those who need it. Life and finances can feel heavy enough already, if therapy feels out of reach, let’s talk about options. Please discuss your needs with us before booking a session.
How will I know if we're the right fit?
A strong client-therapist fit is one of the most important parts of therapy. That’s why I offer a free consultation, it’s a relaxed, no-pressure chat to ask questions, share a bit about what you’re going through, and get a sense of what working together might feel like. If it’s not quite the right vibe, that’s okay, I'm happy to help guide you toward someone else who may be a better fit.
What is the first session like?
The first session is all about getting to know each other in a calm and supportive space. We’ll talk about what’s been going on for you, what you’re hoping to work on, and what therapy could look like going forward. You don’t need to tell your whole story all at once, and you’re always in control of what you share. This space is yours.
How do I book a session?
You can fill out the contact form on the website, click the "Book An Appointment" button at the top of this page, send an email to [email protected], or call (587) 742-8611. We’ll schedule a free consultation and go from there, no pressure, no obligation. Just a conversation to see what support might look like for you.
Is there parking available?
Yes, there’s free visitor parking on-site at Southcentre Executive Tower. It’s easy to access and close to the building entrance. Prefer transit? The Anderson C-Train Station is just across the street.
Still Have a Question That’s Not Listed Here?
That’s completely okay. You’re welcome to reach out anytime, whether you’re ready to book a consultation or just want to clarify something. Therapy starts with a conversation, and there’s no need to have everything figured out first.
Let’s talk when you’re ready.
